The Middle East is a region where vehicle is king and fuel is cheap, often leaving little incentive to find more environmentally-friendly ways of moving.

But this year, as demonstrations throughout the Middle East have pushed up the cost of oil, the problem of discovering alternative sources of fuel has entered sharp focus.

In an area that has one of the highest carbon footprints on the planet, one company is making the most of the growing pressure to discover alternatives to oil. It’s set up the Middle East’s first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s showing rewarding too, already their client-list includes McDonald’s.
